Ready, set, GO! It’s time to start registering your events for European School Sport Day on Friday 30 September 2022. Schools all over Europe and around the world are invited to join in and celebrate this year’s theme: Going Green in Sport. The registration module on the website is now updated to make it easier for schools to make their events count towards the biggest simultaneous school sport day in the world.
The 8th European School Sport Day (ESSD) is once again a flagship event of the #BeActive European Week of Sport (23-30 September) and is supported by the EU’s Erasmus+ programme. Co-founders the Hungarian School Sport Federation (lead coordinator), the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA), EUPEA, Youth Sport Trust International, BG Be Active, DES and V4Sport Foundation are partnering to deliver the event together with National Coordinators from across Europe.
Almost 2.2 million students in over 10,000 schools participated in European School Sport Day in 2021 and we expect this number to climb even higher in 2022. And the event is not only limited to Europe – schools and school children on three continents took part in 2021. The more the merrier!
The #ESSD2022 Going Green in Sport campaign aims to raise awareness of recycling and separate waste collection among children, parents and schools, and provide resources and information on waste-free event ideas to encourage more sustainable habits at schools. A brand new toolkit developed by the BG Be Active team will feature ideas for games and activities that are fun for the students and help teachers and school staff educate children about environmentally-friendly behaviour.
