ISCA Head of Projects Saska Benedicic Tomat and physical literacy expert Rose-Marie Repond from EUPEA were invited to present how physical literacy can contribute to the Lifelong Learning Platform’s (LLLP) work to the LLLP Working Group on the Wider Benefits of Learning on 5 May 2022. The online workshop included an interactive exercise based on the Physical Literacy for Life project’s self-assessment tool.

Saska Benedicic Tomat and Rose-Marie Repond joined Shanti George from the Learning for Well-Being Foundation and Co-Chair of the LLLP Working Group (WG) on Wider Benefits of Learning, and Arja Krauchenberg, Vice President of LLLP and Co-Chair of the LLLP WG on Wider Benefits of Learning, to deliver the half-day workshop, which also included a session on revising the LLLP’s Briefing Paper on Community Lifelong Learning Centres.

Why is physical literacy a key part of lifelong learning?
Physical inactivity has become a worldwide problem with a direct influence on the health and wellbeing of citizens. Thus, physical literacy is becoming an increasingly important part of an individual’s lifelong learning process. The Erasmus+ project Physical Literacy For Life developed a definition, advocacy messages and a practical guide to promoting physical literacy as a concept in different environments. The primary purpose of the project was to create the foundation for physical literacy to be a key component in European citizens’ lifelong learning journey through physical education, physical activity and sport.

Physical Literacy for Life addresses the promotion and implementation of physical literacy in, and through, physical education, physical activity and sport for all ages and in different environments, with a special focus on the four domains. One of the specific objectives is to deliver the tools for the practical application of Physical Literacy in different environments, which includes the self-assessment tools.
