The US National Physical Activity Plan Alliance has released new Cross-Sector Recommendations for Promoting Walking and Walkable Communities. The document is part of the National Physical Activity Plan strategy to encourage more Americans to walk regularly for their health and wellbeing.

ISCA North America Chair Dr Jayne Greenberg is the Education Sector Chair for the National Physical Activity Plan Alliance, which includes academics and health and active living experts from across the US.

The recommendations follow on from the first United States Report Card for Walking and Walkable Communities, which was released in October last year.

They call for more cross-sector collaboration on policy development, design of accessible and safe places for walking, rewarding of active transport initiatives, advocacy and monitoring of impact. They also call for resources and funding from federal, states and local authorities to help with the implementation.
