MOVE Week in Belgium shows that employee activation works
20/01/2015
How can you make your organisations and companies more physically active and increase your employees’ productivity? You don’t need a huge budget to do something beneficial for your employees. MOVE Week 2014 in Belgium showed that employee activation works and can create positive results.
We spend more time sitting than ever before – 9.3 hours a day, which is even more time than we spend sleeping (7.7 hours). Desk jobs play an important role in those statistics. People with sitting jobs have twice the rate of cardiovascular disease as people with standing jobs. Taking breaks from sedentary routine can reduce our waistlines and BMI as well as the risk of back pain or cardiovascular disease.
Acacia Smith, Belgian National MOVE Week Coordinator, succeeded in promoting physical activities at workplaces during MOVE Week 2014. MOVE Week Belgium was supported by one of the biggest Belgian federal organisations – the Federal Department of Finance (SPF Finances) – with 25,000 employees. With events such as “Take the stairs”, “Lets go cycling!” and “Follow the guide” SPF Finances has shown an amazing level of support and made itself an image of carrying and social responsible organisation. Its employees who participated in MOVE Week activities were motivated and enjoyed the spirit of being part of a bigger campaign. Especially the event “Lets go cycling!” was a success as SPF Finances got a visit of several well known cyclists. Even Tom Boonen, Belgian most famous professional cyclist paid a visit.
SPF Finances can be used as an example for companies and organisations to help their employees become more active, productive and feel better at work. Watch the video here and learn more.
