On November 7, 2024, Suceava, Romania, hosted a remarkable event celebrating one year of effective collaboration within an inter-institutional partnership dedicated to the integration of Ukrainian refugees. This milestone occasion was organised by UNHCR Romania as part of the Suceava Refugee Inclusion Working Group Anniversary Event, nearly 1,000 days since the onset of the armed conflict in Ukraine.

The event gathered diverse contributors, including international, national, and regional public and private entities, who contributed and committed to the social integration and well-being of Ukrainian refugee children and their families. Representatives such as the Prefecture of Suceava (Romanian Government's regional body), the Police, the Gendarmerie, the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the Regional Center for Accommodation and Procedures for Asylum Seekers Rădăuți, Save the Children Romania, EDNAE, Rădăuțiul Civic, and various NGOs were present at the Gala event.

This anniversary marked the success of the ongoing partnership and its ambitious future plans for 2025.

A highlight of the event was the recognition ceremony, where key organisations and institutions were honoured for their contributions to fostering inclusivity and building resilient communities. Awards were presented by prominent figures, including Alexandru Moldovan, Prefect of Suceava County; Kylie Alcoba, Senior Operations Officer, UNHCR; Andrea Groves, Head of Field Office Suceava; and Sebastiaan Der Kinderen, Senior Inter-Agency Coordination, UNHCR.

One of the honoured organisations was the Association Sport for All Suceava, recognised for its exemplary work in promoting the social integration of Ukrainian refugee children through sports and physical activities. The association received the Certificate of Acknowledgement, an award that underscores its commitment to supporting forcibly displaced individuals, promoting resilient communities and fostering inclusivity.

The association's impactful work was made possible through Erasmus+ projects financially supported by the European Union, namely:

Through these projects, the association trained physical education teachers to work with Ukrainian refugee children, equipping them with tools to address the unique needs of this sensitive group. These efforts resulted in the successful organisation of numerous sports events and activities throughout 2024.

The recognition at this significant event highlights the vital role of sports in promoting social inclusion and fostering community resilience. Association Sport for All Suceava remains committed to continuing its mission of empowering refugee children and creating opportunities for meaningful integration through sport and movement activities.
